Most Expensive Spurs XI That Failed To Deliver

6. Erik Lamela (£30 Million)

First of all, it's only fair to say that Erik Lamela hasn't delivered YET. Of the players on this list who are still at Spurs, he seems the one most likely to deliver eventually, but it is definitely fair to say that he hasn't so far. Lamela cost a club record fee of £30 million when he joined Spurs from Roma last summer and a lot was expected of him very quickly - perhaps a little unfairly, given his age, the change in style of play and culture and the pressure he will have been carrying on his shoulders. He had a torrid first season, performing poorly when he did play and spending much of it out injured with a bad back, leading some critics to say he was a waste of money. That said, Lamela's attitude this season has been great. He appeared happier, more a part of the group and positive and excited about the season during the club's pre-season and his performances so far have been much more encouraging than last year. Still, he has a long way to go before he pays of his hefty fee.
