Fabio Borini To Complete £14 Million Move To Sunderland

Italian looks certain to join the Wearsiders in a permanent switch after last season's successful loan spell.

Sunderland have agreed a fee believed to be in the region of £14 million for the services of Liverpool striker Fabio Borini, according to Sky sources.

The 23-year-old Italian international now looks certain to complete a permanent move to Wearside after spending a successful season-long spell at the Stadium of Light. Last campaign Borini scored 10 times, most being memorable strikes in big games, including goals in both derbies against bitter rivals Newcastle United.

Reports previously suggested that Borini had poured cold water over a permanent move to Sunderland, instead indicating he was planning on fighting for his place at Anfield, perhaps with unfinished business in mind after scoring only twice in his first campaign on Merseyside. After injury restricted the forward to only 20 appearances last season, Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, who had worked with Borini at Swansea and as part of the Chelsea youth setup, agreed to allow him to temporarily move to the Black Cats in order to regain form and fitness.

In the end it would appear a big money £14 million offer from Sunderland has proven to be too tempting for Rodgers and perhaps the fee and continued interest of Sunderland boss Gus Poyet has convinced Borini it's the best move for his career.
