Fabricio Coloccini Goes From Open Letter To Admitting NUFC Have Lacked Character

Just last week Newcastle United captain Fabricio Coloccini sent an open letter to the Toon faithful asking them to "leave aside all differences" - and now he has admitted that the Magpies squad have failed to show "character" this season. John Carver's side sit just one place and two points above Hull City in the relegation zone and are still in serious danger of relegation with two Premier League games remaining. The Magpies ended an eight-match losing run by securing a 1-1 draw against West Bromwich Albion at St James' Park on Saturday, and Coloccini has now come out and admitted the Newcastle players have made a "mistake" in the way they have performed so far this campaign.

Quoted in The Chronicle, Coloccini said of Newcastle's form:

"Next year we cannot take the same risk - we need to show the character before, it was a mistake. "But we are not here to look backwards - we need to look forwards to get points."

Newcastle's final two matches are away to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday and at home to West Ham United on the final day of the season. Coloccini must prove he means his words by leading the Magpies to safety by claiming four points from those two matches.
