Fantasy Premier League 19/20: 10 Season-Defining Moments
4. Lord Lundstram At The Double
To the normal football fan with some semblance of an actual life, the name John Lundstram will mean very little.
Those who do know the name will recognise him as a midfield cog in the successful Sheffield United machine that hugely out-performed expectations under Chris Wilder and found themselves finishing in ninth, despite having only just been promoted to the top tier.
But to say John Lundstram has a cult following in the Fantasy Football world would be an understatement.
Why do we in the FPL universe revere John Lundstram and yet would barely give the time of day to his fellow central midfielder Oliver Norwood?
That is because John Lundstram – despite being a box-to-box midfielder - was listed on FPL as a £4.0 defender.
When it was first touted in Fantasy Football circles that Lundstram was worth signing, it was scoffed at by many, including some Sheffield United fans who didn’t think he was a guaranteed starter.
Then came Gameweek 11, and the moment that makes this list, when Sheffield United were playing at home to Burnley.
Even the most ardent of ‘Lord’ Lundstram’s advocates could not have predicted he would come away with a monster 21 point haul, scoring two goals, getting a clean sheet and all three bonus points.
Now everyone and his dog was on board the Lundstram bandwagon and it inevitably slowed up a bit, but he still finished as the fifth highest scoring defender of the season in FPL.
