Defence is the most overlooked section of most fantasy squads. Defenders don't score a lot of goals and fantasy managers prefer to save up big chunks of their budget for star players further up the pitch. That strategy makes sense, but some defenders can provide a whole lot of points so it's important not to ignore them, and one of the key tips in this area is to focus primarily on full-backs.

Fantasy Premier League awards the biggest point tallies for goals. Defenders can rack up points for clean sheets, but they earn even more by scoring or making goals, and full-backs tend to have the best chance of this as they're often given the freedom to get forward and whip in crosses while their central defensive counterparts sit back and hold down the fort.

A look back to last season's statistics showed full backs like Marcos Alonso, Héctor Bellerin, Victor Moses, Ben Davies, and Kyle Walker were among the top performing defenders over the course of the season. Some goalscoring centre-backs like Nicolás Otamendi can also rack up a lot of points, but the best value tends to lie among the full backs.
