Fantasy Premier League Tips: 11 Best Cheap Players

9. Defender: Per Mertesacker - £5.5 Million

Another cheap option at the back is Arsenal's Per Mertesacker. The Germany international signed for the Gunners from Werder Bremen in 2011 and, after struggling to nail down a regular spot in Arsene Wenger's side during his debut season, finally came into his own by making 34 Premier League appearances for 2012/13. Mertesacker is a good defender to have in Fantasy Football as his high energy levels means he usually plays the entire 90 minutes, gaining those who picked him maximum points. He played the entire 90 minutes in all of Germany's seven games at the 2010 FIFA World Cup, for example. Mertesacker also started 97% of Arsenal's games last season. And at £5.5 million, he is one of the cheaper defensive options in Fantasy Football and one who is always going to play.
