Formula 1 2013 Indian Grand Prix - Victorious Sebastien Vettel Claims Championship

The Tail End

Marussia struck an important victory at the back as both their cars made it to the flag, with Chilton leading home Bianchi for P17 and P18. Chilton managed a potentially race ending problem with his engineers and took the car home ahead of his teammate after surviving the first lap incidents with the Caterham's. Bianchi was pleased to finish the race after retiring in Japan but was disappointed to finish behind Chilton as their strategies were very close and his should have been a little faster, but his first pit stop problems cost him time. Overall Marussia maintained their tenth place in the constructors over Caterham with three races to go. Caterham's race went from bad to worse as Van der Garde collided with Chilton in turn one to break his nose and front suspension, blaming the Marussia driver for not giving him space. Pic was hit by his teammate in the first corner tussles and had to pit immediately for new tyres with a puncture. Despite starting on soft tyres it still hurt his strategy and left him playing catch up to the Marussia's, and then he suffered another puncture and pitted on lap 16. It was a struggle from there and then he suffered a hydraulic leak, hampering the gearbox and his steering prior to retiring on lap 39.
