Looking Ahead
A fortnight will take us to Singapore, Formula 1's night race in the enclosing heat of the East. Host of the event since 2008, it offers unique challenges for the teams and drivers, and is a drastic contrast compared to the last two races. Singapore is a tight, modern street circuit, one introduced with a raft of other similar circuits in the last few years, and has a lot more focus on braking and low-speed downforce. With the change in aerodynamic demands, teams such as Mercedes and Ferrari will be hoping that there will be a turnaround in Red Bull's fortunes compared to the high-speed circuits. However with their strong performances at other demanding aerodynamic venues earlier in the season, it seems unlikely there will be a huge upset in the status quo. Some teams will be looking to get back into the points, such as Lotus and Force India after a couple of poor races. McLaren will be hoping their higher downforce package will be more effective going into Singapore to maintain their position ahead of Force India. Singapore offers the chance of an interesting spectacle, and has provided some exciting moments over the years, and we can only hope that something drastic unfolds to provide a thrilling race under the artificial lighting.
