Fulham Transfer News: Darren Bent Undergoing Medical?

darren bent 2 Aston Villa striker Darren Bent is undergoing a medical at Fulham ahead of his proposed £5 million move to Craven Cottage, according to Sky Sports sources. The 29-year-old was reportedly the subject of a £4 million bid from the Cottagers last month, which was rejected by Villa, leading to Fulham's improved offer. Bent was a peripheral figure at Villa Park last summer, playing second fiddle to new signing Christian Benteke and making just the 16 Premier League appearances under manager Paul Lambert. And with Benteke committing himself to the Midlands club having earlier handed in a transfer request, it appears as though Villa are finally prepared to offload a player they paid Sunderland £24 million for back in 2011. Bent was signed under the Gerard Houllier era and has been something of a flop since, scoring just 25 times in 64 appearances. And the fact that Villa are taking a £19 million hit on the player only serves to exemplify how badly the signing went wrong. Bent, who was also wanted by Newcastle United, would be a welcome addition at Fulham however, who are looking for a new forward to ease some of the burden on the club's top goalscorer last season, Dimitar Berbatov.
