Is This Arsenal's Greatest XI?
CM. Liam Brady
For some younger Arsenal fans (and those who have dabbled in Football Manager for years) Liam Brady's name is mostly associated with the key role he had in building the Arsenal youth academy into the formidable force it is today. Despite the success he had in doing that, true, old school Arsenal fans know him as the teams original pass master. Sure, Arsenal have had some very creative passers of the ball over the years but Brady's incredible ability to dink seemingly impossible balls towards the likes of Frank Stapleton and Malcolm MacDonald made watching Arsenal must-see TV for any football fan during the 70's. And the Irish man wasn't shy about banging in a few goals himself too if he got the opportunity. His talents didn't go unnoticed as he was the first foreigner to win the PFA Player of the Year award in 1979. His seven year stint with Arsenal culminated in a famous 3-2 victory over Manchester United in the 1979 FA cup final, but with a player of his skill and ability it's almost criminal that he didn't win more trophies with the club.Despite spending the latter part of his career in Italy, Brady came back to Arsenal as the Head of Youth Development in 1996 and helped mould the likes of Ashley Cole, Jack Wilshere, Cesc Fabregas and many more from the academy into top professional players.
