Liverpool: 10 Reasons Why Rodgers Must Face The Axe
4. Outrageous Misuse Of Signings
For one reason or another, Rodgers has deployed his signings out of position on a regular basis since his 2012 appointment.
Nuri Sahin, who signed on loan for Liverpool after an epic tug of war with Arsenal, cut short his time at the club having been utterly misused and featured only 12 times.
Not since Xabi Alonso have Liverpool had a deep lying playmaker in the ranks with such class, yet Rodgers deployed the stylish Turk in an unfamiliar number ten position.
I spoke with him (Rodgers) and asked him why I was still playing there. It is not my real position. The boss could not answer mestill, I am not sorry about it. To play in the red jersey and be in Anfield is something marvellous.
Maybe if I had not gone there I would not have been able to return to Dortmund. For that I am happy. But I have left Brendan Rodgers, thanks be to God.
Emre Can, once rendered 'The Next Schweinsteiger' due to his excellence in a central midfield role, has featured only sporadically in his favourite position, scoring against champions Chelsea in one of his rare outings in midfield.
And although the young German powerhouse seemed comfortable in a back three, Rodgers simply hung Can out to dry in the last few weeks of the season by playing the midfielder at right back - a position so emphatically unsuited to the 20-year old's skill-set.
If Rodgers persists with playing the talented midfielder out of position and abusing his 'versatility role', it won't be long until Can asks for a move back to his native Germany.
