Liverpool: 5 Reasons The Reds Can Win The Premier League Next Season
4. Champions League Football Should Be Enough To Keep Luis Suarez
Its probably fair to say that the biggest success of the summer transfer window was keeping hold of Luis Suarez, especially after Arsenal showed an interest in the player. In the summer though, that many of us neutrals would have expected for Liverpool to perform this well. So, it could have been argued that Suarez was wasting his career, and potentially denying himself the opportunity to play Champions League football. Its also worth pointing out that the Uruguayan striker has caused the club plenty of problems off the field, which has led some people to suggest he simply isnt worth the time. Those calls were strengthened when the Reds finished last season strongly as well as doing the same at the start of this season even though Suarez was banned. However, I have always maintained that he is one of the few players in world football that is worth persisting with due to his ability. On a personal note, I have been pleased to see the striker starting the season so strongly. Suarezs ability this season has put him right up there against the leading strikers and Europe. The 23 league goals that he has scored this season is the most from Europes top five leagues beating the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Diego Costa; his goals has also been one of the biggest contributions of 34% that has only been beaten by Ibrahimovic and Costa. In addition to this; he also has the highest average rating of 8.61 and has provided nine assists this season with only Barcelonas Cesc Fabregas providing more. As mentioned, Liverpool are on course to qualify for the Champions League this season, something that ought to keep Suarez committed to the club. It should be pointed out though that one of the reasons that the Reds have been consistent is because they havent had the distraction of European football. So, that is something they will have to manage next season, but it is offset by having a world-class player in their ranks.
