Liverpool: 8 Things Brendan Rodgers Must Do To Improve In 2015
4. Spend Better In The Transfer Market
When Suarez left in the summer, everybody knew Liverpool were losing arguably the third best player on the planet. He was always going to be a huge loss, but Rodgers still had a huge amount of money to spend in order to make up for El Pistoleros exit. It would be harsh to call his summer spending disastrous, as a lot of the new players are very young and cant be judged properly yet, but he simply didnt bring in enough experienced, established stars. The likes of Moreno, Javier Manquillo, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic and Divock Origi are all either 22 or younger, Balotelli is 24 and unpredictable, and even 26-year-old Lallana is a young 26 who hasnt been at the top level for long. He needed to sign three or four players between 25 and 30, who had played regular Champions League football or at least regular football in one of Europe's major leagues. Its not too much of a surprise that virtually all of the purchases have failed to impress so far, barring possibly Lallana, and Rodgers made a big mistake in going almost solely for youth. He has to learn from this mistake in January and next summer, and also improve his general activity in the transfer market. Theres an argument to say that, of the 20-odd players Rodgers has signed since taking over at Anfield in 2012, only Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho have been genuine success stories. He has to improve markedly in this respect.
