Liverpool Transfer News: Clint Dempsey Rejects Villa, Wants Anfield Move

Fulham forward Clint Dempsey has turned down a move to Aston Villa.

The Daily Mail reports that the agreed fee was said to be for around £7 million, however the 29-year-old now seems unlikely to join the Midlands club. Liverpool and Sunderland have been heavily linked with interest in Dempsey in the past few weeks but only Aston Villa are believed to have agreed a fee with his club for his services. It is the interest from the Merseyside club and new Kop boss Brendan Rodgers that forced Dempsey to become unsettled at Fulham and manager Martin Jol had left him out of the Cottagers' opening games of the season, the player later declaring he wanted to leave the club. Fulham even made an official complaint to the Premier League about Liverpool's accused unsettling of Dempsey. It now remains to be seen whether Liverpool will up their efforts to agree a fee with Fulham for the signing of Dempsey today before the transfer window slams shut at 11pm tonight.
