Liverpool Transfer News: Martin Skrtel's Agent Rules Out Napoli Move

Sky Sports. Karol Csonto revealed earlier this month that he was set to hold talks with Liverpool about the future of the 28-year old centre-back, who admitted to his frustration toward the end of last season after losing his place in Brendan Rodger's starting XI. Rafael Benitez, who brought the Slovak international to Anfield from Zenit Saint Petersburg in 2008, is understood to be interested in landing the defender for his new club Napoli, who he joined this summer following the culmination of his "interim" stint in charge of Chelsea. Yet Csonto has rubbished those claims by questioning if the Serie A club could even afford to pay his client's wages. Speaking to Tuttomercatoweb, he said:

"Martin to move away from Liverpool? I specifically say that Skrtel has never said he wants to go away, then it depends on the Liverpool market because everything could change. "It's true that the last two seasons were difficult but in football it can happen. "Napoli? I think they haven't the financial possibilities to take him. Liverpool has not decided a price because they don't intend to sell the player. Anyway, I don't think that Napoli can afford his wage."
Skrtel has made over 200 appearances for Liverpool following his move from Russia in 2008, and is also the captain of the Slovakian national side. He was named Standard Chartered Liverpool Player of the Season in 2012 but has since found things difficult on Merseyside. The likes of Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher kept him out of Rodger's starting eleven last season and despite the retirement of the latter, he could again find appearances difficult to come by next season with the emergence of Martin Kelly.
