Liverpool Transfer News: Shay Given To Anfield?

Sun. The Aston Villa shot-stopper was set for a season-long loan to Doncaster after being informed he is deemed surplus to requirement at the Midlands club. However, Liverpool are now in talks over a deal for the 37-year-old and sources claim the move is set to be given the thumbs up. Given, who has played for Newcastle United and Manchester City, won the FA Cup with the latter side before moving on to Villa following the emergence of Joe Hart in 2011. The Republic of Ireland international has made 37 appearances with the Villans but only two in the Premier League last season after falling down the pecking order behind Brad Guzan. Liverpool have allowed Pepe Reina to move to Napoli on loan and only have Brad Jones as back-up as things stand. The Reds are also back in the chase for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Tiago Ilori, who has been linked with the Merseysiders all summer. A deal looked to be on the rocks following the Portuguese outfit's huge cash demands, but Kop boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful of securing the 20-year-old with a bid of around £5.5 million, plus various add-ons. Rodgers is in the market for a centre-back before next Monday's transfer deadline day following Kolo Toure's groin injury sustained in the midweek Capital One Cup clash with Notts County.
