Liverpool Transfer News: Yevhen Konoplyanka Talks Begin?

Liverpool are hoping to secure a last minute deal for Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk winger Yevhen Konoplyanka before this Friday's transfer deadline, according to Team Talk. The Reds have already begun negotiations with the Ukrainian side and are hoping to have completed the signing before the window shuts in a little over two days. Liverpool's head of recruitment Dave Fallows is understood to be travelling to Ukraine to hold talks with Konoplyanka, who has scored nine goals in 23 total appearances this term. Brendan Rodgers' side have yet to sign anyone this month and have been one of the quieter Premier League clubs in the January market. They were keen on Basel's Mohamed Salah, but despite holding talks with the winger, missed out when he instead completed a move to rivals Chelsea. Following his side's 4-0 thrashing of Merseyside rivals Everton on Tuesday, Rodgers announced he was hopeful of making a 'major signing' before Friday's deadline. And Ukraine international Konoplyanka could be the player to boost his side's chances of a top four finish in the latter half of the season. Rodgers said of the chances of him making a big move in the window this week:
I think we will hopefully do something over the next couple of days. Hopefully we can have a major signing before the window shuts and if we can do that we will be set up for the remaining games.
Konoplyanka, though a name difficult to both spell and pronounce, will be familiar with England fans - he scored against the Three Lions in a World Cup qualifier at Wembley last September.
