As a young boy, John O’Shea may have dreamt about scoring the winner in front of the Kop. In March 2007, he realised this dream - perhaps just not for the team his teenage self might have envisaged.

The Waterford man was a diehard Liverpool fan as a youngster, but after 13 years at Old Trafford he has been conditioned to loathe everything the club stands for. He was even hoping for cross-city rivals Man City to pip in and deny them a first league title since 1990 three years ago.

O’Shea was much-maligned during the beginnings of his United career, but the Kop winner - burning a thousand and one bridges in the process - elevated him to cult hero status. From then, O’Shea went on to establish himself as a key figure at right-back in Gary Neville’s absence. With Liverpool having struggled in the interim period between Steve Finnan’s exit and Glen Johnson’s arrival, O’Shea could have been a useful option at some point.

His presence on the red side of Anfield certainly would have saved them a lot pain in March 2007, that’s for sure.
