Liverpool Transfers: 5 Alternatives To Nabil Fekir
3. Thomas Lemar
The 2017 summer window one was a somewhat frustrating one for Liverpool. Apart from the acquisition of Mohamed Salah early on, the club's pursuits of Virgil Van Dijk and Naby Keita proved to be intense affairs, with Keita having to wait another year before heading to Merseyside, and Van Dijk a further four months until the January window.
Come transfer deadline day, and Liverpool had negotiated a deal for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who'd swerved a move from Chelsea to link up with Klopp et al. More surprising, perhaps, was the club's attempt to sign Monaco midfielder Thomas Lemar, a long-term Arsenal target who emerged as a Liverpool one in the chaos of deadline day.
Thanks in part to the deadline day drama surrounding Alexis Sanchez's touted move to Manchester City, Lemar didn't get his switch. Liverpool reportedly cooled their interest in the ensuing months as the Monaco man's form nosedived, with those close to the club maintaining that the likelihood of it being revisited is low, if not downright impossible.
That said, Lemar is clearly a talented player, and one who could easily fill the left-sided roaming role Coutinho did in his final months at the club. It might present a bigger gamble now, but could a good World Cup reignite this particular saga?
