On the other flank Southampton at least have one of last season's players still sure of featuring in the team. Right back Nathaniel Clyne was linked with a move to Anfield when Liverpool were about to sign Lallana after previous right back Glen Johnson was left dangerously exposed defensively on various occasions for both club and country. Clyne now looks like staying at St. Mary's for the time being with Liverpool instead having brought in Javier Manquillo on loan from La Liga winners Atletico Madrid. With Manquillo likely to start on the right on Sunday, Johnson will probably switch to left back, meaning that he is likely to run up against his once mooted replacement. Johnson is much stronger going forward than he is defensively, so Clyne is likely to have to deal with marauding runs from his opposite number. On the other hand, Clyne may be a more defensive right back than Johnson, but he too enjoys getting forward and, if he can link with new right winger Saphir Taider, he could well be able to expose the gaps in Liverpool's defence left by Johnson's eagerness to get forward.
