Liverpool vs Zenit: 3 Ways Liverpool Can Pull It Back

1. Control the Midfield

640px-Steven_Gerrard_celebrating Zenit's midfield 3 of Witsel, Denisov and Shirokov were totally dominant in the first leg, in contrast to Liverpool's, which lacked purpose and an ability to keep the ball. Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson looked overawed at times and Allen in particular struggled to keep up with the pace of play which lead to misplaced passes and missed tackles. I fully expect Lucas Leiva to come into the starting XI on Thursday to sit in front of the back four, which will allow Steven Gerrard to get forward more and support Suarez more, something that was missing in the first leg because the Liverpool skipper had to hold back more to cover Allen's mistakes. Liverpool showed against Swansea on Sunday that they can play an exciting passing game and they just need to keep that rhythm and balance again and they can get back into the game.
