With Gerard Houllier's side fighting for Champions League football, they looked set to drop two potentially vital points at Goodison Park in the Merseyside derby. Nothing would have given Toffees fans more joy than harming their great rivals' chances of a top-three finish. When the Reds won a stoppage-time free-kick 40 yards from goal, most players would have delivered the ball into the box and hoped for the best. McAllister's audacious decision to shoot may have backfired, but he got it absolutely perfect to earn a monumental 3-2 win. The celebrations that followed were unforgettable. It doesn't get much better than beating your rivals away in the last minute. Houllier's men went on to finish third, ensuring they qualified for the Champions League, and also won a memorable cup treble. They beat Birmingham City in the League Cup final, stunned Arsenal in the FA Cup final after a late double by Owen, and beat Alaves 5-4 after extra time, in a thrilling UEFA Cup final. McAllister's goal was definitely one of the standout moments of the season.
