Liverpool's 10 Best Premier League Goals Ever

5. Xabi Alonso vs Newcastle - 2006/07

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DuZd0n8MqWs Xabi Alonso arrived at Liverpool in the summer of 2004, and it was clear straight away that the Reds had acquired the services of a very special midfielder. The Spaniard often kept things simple, dictating games with consummate ease, but there were also times when he showcased his eye for the spectacular. This unbelievable effort against Newcastle at the start of the 2006/07 campaign perfectly illustrates that. Having scored from the halfway line against Luton Town in the FA Cup earlier in the year- there was, admittedly, no goalkeeper in the goal on that occasion- he repeated his heroics during a tight game at Anfield. The vision to see Harper off his line was bordering on genius, and the execution was magnificent. The Magpies 'keeper may have slipped, but you can take nothing away from Alonso's effort. It was spectacular. The former Spain international's performances helped Benitez's side finish third in the Premier League, and they came agonisingly close to winning the Champions League for the second time in three years, losing 2-1 to Milan in the final in Athens.
