Man City Transfer News: Shakhtar's Fernandinho To Complete £30 Million Move

The Guardian, Manchester City are close to completing a £30 million transfer for Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, Fernandinho The 28-year-old was seen arriving at a private Manchester hospital for his City medical on Wednesday morning, indicating a deal was imminent. The Brazilian€™s buyout clause, which is £42.5 million, has not been activated due to Manchester City and the Ukrainian team having agreed a deal believed to worth around £30 million for his services. Fernandinho will be The Citizen€™s second transfer of the summer after completing the signing of Sevilla winger Jesus Navas for a fee of around £24 million earlier this week. Once Fernandinho is confirmed as a Sky Blue player, City€™s transfer spend will be up to £54 million and we are only a few days into June. Shakhtar€™s number 7 has achieved everything he can in the Ukrainian league having lifted the title in the last four consecutive seasons, as well as helping his side win three domestic cups in the last three years. Fernandinho was also part of the Shakhtar side that won the 2009/09 Europa League. A move to Manchester City will mean the athletic Brazilian will compete with the top teams not only in the Premier League but also in the Champions League. Whilst Fernandinho has never been part of a Champions League winning side he has had experience in the tournament, with Shakhtar being successful in the group stages of last year€™s competition and making it through to the last-16. Former Malaga manager, Manuel Pellegrini, is the favourite to take over the vacant job at the Etihad. It is unclear whether Pellegrini has had any say in the transfers of Navas and Fernandinho, but it is clear that the 2012/13 Premier League runners up do not intend to be left behind the transfer market this summer.
