Man City Transfers: 8 Last Minute Signings That Could Happen

7. John Stones (Everton)

When Vincent Kompany plays, Manchester City are a completely different team. However without him, the foundations for the entire team appear visibly shaky. Neither Elaquim Mangala, Martin Demichelis, or Nicolas Otamendi have asserted themselves in the role of principal ship-steadier, and with neither injuries or age on Kompany's side a new alternative desperately needs to be found. For any English club with deep pockets, an investment in John Stones more or less buys you defensive solidity for the next 10 years. With both the Goodison Park crowd starting to sour on him, and him manager deploying him our of position, his decision to stay in the summer is starting to look a short-sighted one. The next stage of his development surely lies elsewhere. Chelsea, once the obvious frontrunner for his signature, are floundering near the bottom of the league and, more crucially, between permanent managers. With Arsenal reluctant to spent that big and Manchester United having bigger issues to deal with, this might be the only transfer window where they could sweep in unopposed.
