5. Sunday 9th December 2012: Manchester City 2-3 Manchester United
The most recent derby on this list, this one will be remembered purely for Samir Nasri's decision to shy away from the ball in front of Robin van Persie's 90th minute free-kick. Nasri became an instant villain amongst Citizens after this derby and Robin van Persie an instant hero among the Red Devils. In all honesty, however, it really shouldn't have reached that stage in the first place. United were cruising at half-time after two goals from Wayne Rooney had given them a stronghold over the game. City struggled to deal with the wide play of the United side and things were only made worse when captain Vincent Kompany limped off. The Sky Blues looked lost in their own stadium during a torrid 45 minutes, after which Mario Balotelli was hauled off by manager Roberto Mancini. It was during the second half that the game really came to life though. Ashley Young thought he had furthered United's lead, only to be flag offside by the linesman. This was a shock to the system for United as City scored just seconds later. Yaya Toure's goal turned the game on it's head and United were reeling. Cue then, half an hour of relentless Manchester City pressure. David De Gea made save, after save, after save as City went for the jugular. It was Mr.Consistent, Pablo Zabaleta, that got the goal that City thought had salvaged them a draw in the 85th minute after Tevez' corner was only half cleared. The celebrations were short-lived however, as Robin van Persie's deflected 92nd minute free-kick sealed Sir Alex Ferguson's last ever victory in the Manchester Derby.
