Man Utd Transfer News: Robert Lewandowski Deal Agreed

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Borrusia Dortmund to sign Polish international Robert Lewandowski, according to reports coming out of the Italian media. Tutto Mercato are reporting that United's long pursuit of the 23-year-old striker has finally ended in a deal, HOWEVER, Lewandowski wouldn't be hooking up with his Old Trafford team-mates until the 2013/2014 season. United's deal with the Bundesliga side is for Lewandowski to join next summer with the striker remaining in Germany for one final campaign. Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp and the club's hierarchy insisted that they held on to the forward for another season so they would have a whole year to find a replacement for the 30 goals he scored last year (and what they hope he repeats this season) to win what would be another domestic double. Dortmund had already sold one prized asset to Manchester United with Kagawa going in that direction and losing a second in the same summer would have been unthinkable. Sir Alex Ferguson however is still believed to be in the hunt for a new forward for the short term. Michael Owen was recently released and Dimitar Berbatov is now effectively transfer listed for as little as £5 million. He does have Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck to fight for positions alongside Wayne Rooney but the likelihood is he wants another option in his squad, with no youngster emerging in these positions.
