Man Utd Transfers: 5 Left-Backs Van Gaal Must Consider To Replace Evra

1. Fabio Coentrao

United went in for the Real Madrid left-back last summer, under the David Moyes administration, but were left disappointed on transfer deadline day when the move fell by the wayside. Like Vermaelen, Coentrao is on the fringes at his club, while he is also extremely versatile. Capable of playing left-back, on the left wing and even as a defensive midfielder, Coentrao is a multi-purpose defender who could help solve a lot of United's problems in one fell swoop. The Red Devil's problems in the middle of the park - especially in defensive midfield - are well known with Marouane Fellaini thus far failing to make much of an impact. They also aren't blessed with a wide array of talent on the flanks, either, with Ashley Young in particular failing to make the grade at Old Trafford. Coentrao only made 10 La Liga appearances for Real last season, making a meagre four starts for the Spanish side. It is likely Madrid wouldn't ask any more than £10 million for the defender, who would probably jump at the chance of playing for United if it meant regular first-team football. Which of these left-back options do you think Van Gaal should make his priority? Share your pics below in the comments thread.
