Man Utd Transfers: 7 Players Louis Van Gaal Needs To Get Rid Of Today

7. Rafael

Defence is a key area at Manchester United this summer and with manager Louis van Gaal looking to bring in reinforcements for his back line today we could see one or two casualties before tonight's transfer deadline. To facilitate any new arrivals the Dutchman may sell to make room in his side and it would appear Rafael is deemed surplus to requirements. The Brazilian is on the fringes at Old Trafford and, despite being fit to play, has yet to feature in the Premier League this season and didn't even make the substitutes' bench for the weekend draw with Burnley. Nor did he play in the League Cup defeat to MK Dons, despite van Gaal giving a run-out to a series of his fringe players. The right-back has been tipped to leave United this summer as a result and was among seven players reported to be on their way out when reports first surfaced that van Gaal was planning a clear-out. Last season was a disappointing one for Rafael, who was injured for most of the campaign, and we may have already seen the last of him in a red shirt.
