Man Utd Transfers: 7 Players Moyes Should Sell This Window

3. Rio Ferdinand

Age: 35 Nationality: English Joined United: July 2002 Injuries, damn injuries, and statistics. A good servant to Manchester United, and a loyal and talented one at that. He became a United player 11-and-a-half years ago, with United spending nearly £34 million to draft the Leeds defender; a record for a defender at the time. However, he's been worth it, marshalling the cornerstone of the United defence for over a decade. Injuries don't lie though, and Ferdinand has had an accumulation of them in recent times. He played once in November after returning from injury, and before that, it was September. He's played nearly 18 years of Premier League football, nearly 2 decades in an abrasive position in one of the toughest leagues on the planet, and the time has come to make a difficult decision. Ferdinand is rightly a top earner at United, earning a reported £120,000 a week. However, this is money that could be spent on a younger, fitter central defender to replace him, and this is a deal that should appeal to Moyes when he re-evaluates the side having lost their Premier League crown.
