Man Utd Transfers: Sir Alex Ferguson's 5 Best And Worst Signings

5. Robin van Persie - Signed From Arsenal In 2012 For £22.5 Million

The final €˜big signing€™ in the Sir Alex Ferguson era; and what a signing it was! Robin van Persie is widely credited as being the signing which secured Manchester United their historic 20th and possibly the sweetest league title to date, claiming it back from bitter rivals, Manchester City. Many believed that spending over £20 million on a 29-year-old was bad business from Sir Alex; however the Scot€™s decision to splash the big money on the Dutchman has definitely been fully vindicated. The former Arsenal striker has gone on to score 29 goals for the club in all competitions which is already a record for a player in his debut season at Old Trafford, and with two games still remaining this figure could still increase. The Dutchman has seemingly stole Wayne Rooney€™s thunder; solidifying himself as Manchester United€™s number one striker with Wayne Rooney now falling behind him. However Robin van Persie beats Wayne Rooney to the fifth spot as van Persie has had a much bigger impact in his first season than Rooney did in his debut season at Old Trafford. Understandably Rooney was still a young boy when he signed on to play for Manchester United; whilst van Persie is close to entering his thirties, but based solely on impact and the difference they have made in the Manchester United side, Robin van Persie just edges Wayne Rooney as Sir Alex€™s fifth best signing. Now it is up to Robin to show the rest of the league why Sir Alex invested so highly in him, as he will compete to keep himself in David Moyes€™ plans.transfer fee valuation source - daily mail
