Man Utd's 10 Most Hated Players

5. Wayne Rooney

When he went back on that stance to join Manchester United in 2004, Toffees fans understandably turned their backs on their former goal hero. Rooney has always had a hot reception whenever he has returned to Goodison Park as a United player, and his behaviour has even seen some Red Devils fans turn on him. In 2010, he refused to sign a new deal at Old Trafford, questioning United's ambition. Many said he was merely holding out for more money and he later backtracked on his decision to sign a new contract. Also in 2010, following an abject England performance against Algeria that prompted fans to boo the team off at full-time, Rooney rounded on a TV camera and bellowed "Nice to see your own fans boo you", further fracturing his relationship with fans in some quarters. Rooney has always been hot-headed, and a player of which supporters have loved to hate over the years.
