McClaren's Candidates To Be Newcastle Captain Assessed

3. Daryl Janmaat

Jack Colback may be marginally ahead of Janmaat in the pecking order for the Newcastle captaincy, but it would come as a surprise to no-one if the Dutch international right-back is handed the armband by Steve McClaren in the coming weeks. Arguably the Magpies' most-consistent performer (until the final month of the campaign) last season, Janmaat exudes confidence and stability - something Newcastle have been lacking in recently. His stupid and petty dismissal at Leicester City aside, Janmaat has rarely been overawed by playing in a black-and-white shirt and he seems to thrive under the expectations. A senior voice in the dressing room and another member of the ever-growing Dutch contingent, Janmaat could also be offered the armband in order to ward off potential suitors for his signature in the future. He was already given the responsibility of wearing the armband during the 2-2 draw at Sheffield United, so evidently he is in McClaren's thought. Alongside Colback, he would be the most-popular selection among the majority of supporters. Likelihood Of Being Captain For 2015-16 Season: 8/10
