Monaco Grand Prix Review

Race

Fast forward to race day, and a battle was brewing. Hamilton had won Monaco in 2008, and was hungry to secure victory again. For Rosberg, first place at Monaco was a more recent memory, the German having won last year. The rest of the grid lined up in near-formation, the two Red Bulls of Ricciardo and Vettel in 3rd and 4th, whilst Ferrari's Alonso and Raikkonen placed 5th and 6th. A mix of Toro Rossos McLarens and Force Indias made up the sharp end of the field, as the five red lights signalled the start of the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix. A clean getaway for the whole grid saw no first-corner pile-ups, and Rosberg shot off up the hill followed closely by Hamilton. Raikkonen made a great start and moved up to fourth, behind Ricciardo. Hopes for a clean race were quickly scuppered however, when McLaren's Jenson Button clipped Sergio Perez into the barriers heading to the hairpin. As the stricken car lay across the track the Safety Car was deployed. Racing got underway again, and the period before the first scheduled pitstops became a typical Monaco affair with limited overtaking. Current champion Sebastian Vettel hadn't made much of an impression all weekend, and his race came to an end with a broken gearbox on lap 8. Russian rookie Kvyat also retired soon after with a similar mechanical issue.

I like writing about films and hope you like reading about them too. And watching them, of course.
