Hamilton Drives Blind

Further down the field, Sauber's Adrian Sutil pulled off a number of impressive overtakes at the Lowes hairpin before losing control coming out of the tunnel and smashing the left of his car. With debris on track and Sutil's crumpled Sauber needing moved, the Safety Car came out once again. As the field closed up, many cars took to the pit lane, including the two Mercedes' of Rosberg and Hamilton. In the melee of pitting cars, Vergne came close to crashing his Toro Rosso into McLaren rookie Magnussen, earning himself a penalty. For Hamilton, an opportunity to pit early seemed wasted, and he vented his disappointment over the radio. Racing resumed, but not for Raikkonen, who found himself pitting again with a punctured tyre. The Finn had made it up to 3rd but dropped down the order, in a disastrous moment for a struggling Ferrari team. Nico Hulkenburg powered his Force India past the McLaren of Magnussen in a great move at tight right hander before the tunnel. In the meantime suspected high fuel usage caused drama for leader Rosberg, who was being caught by second placed Hamilton. Further down the field, the race for the final points positions was hotting up as both Marussia and Caterham saw an opportunity to score their first ever points. A race of attrition between Rosberg and Hamilton suddenly took on a whole new dynamic on lap 65. With the gap between the two cars having widened, it seemed as though Rosberg had found something extra. But in reality, his British team-mate was suffering from an unusual problem. Hamilton, exasperated, came on the radio. "I can't see out of my left eye - I've got some dirt or something in my eye." The bizarre situation gave Rosberg a clear advantage, as Hamilton somehow managed to continue driving the most difficult F1 circuit with one eye closed.

I like writing about films and hope you like reading about them too. And watching them, of course.
