Newcastle 2014-15 Season Review - Player Ratings

There is still a sense of relief on Tyneside - they did if the hard way, but Newcastle United survived on the final day of the Premier League season thanks to a 2-0 victory over West Ham United. That win made Hull City's result against Manchester United irrelevant, with the Tigers dropping into the Championship for 2015-16 alongside Burnley and Queens Park Rangers. Incredibly, the Magpies' final-day victory actually saw them leapfrog both Sunderland and Aston Villa and finish in 15th place in the Premier League table on 39 points. Newcastle won 10 games, drew nine and lost 19 - scoring just 40 and conceding 63 in the process, leaving them with a goal difference of -23. Alan Pardew started the season in charge and the Magpies were winless for the opening seven games - before embarking on a magnificent six-match winning run in all competitions. When Pardew left for Palace at the turn of the year, Newcastle were in ninth place on 26 points after 19 games and had been knocked out of the Capital One Cup at the quarter-final stage. John Carver then took over - and his Newcastle side exited the FA Cup at the first hurdle and won just three more league games all season, having to claim that victory over West Ham on the final day to secure their Premier League future.
