Newcastle Beat QPR 2 Years Ago To Stay Up - But How Do They Rate Vs The Current Team?

11. THEN: Mathieu Debuchy - NOW: Daryl Janmaat

For the first-half of this season it looked like Newcastle United had done a masterful piece of business - they sold Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal for £15 million and signed the just-as-able (if not better) Daryl Janmaat for just £6 million. Bargain of the season. However, Janmaat's attitude in recent weeks has smacked of someone who simply does not want to be at St James' Park anymore - and he looks like a player who does not want to play under John Carver. His sending off at Leicester City was ridiculous and petulant, and Newcastle cannot afford for another scenario like that should they go behind at Loftus Road this weekend.
Yet Debuchy himself does not get a free ride into this combined Newcastle team. Towards the end of the 2012-13 season, Debuchy himself was guilty of pathetic petulance - most notably when he was dismissed during the embarrassing 6-0 reversal against Liverpool. In fact, Debuchy's clumsy challenge allowed Loic Remy to put QPR ahead from the spot. Both players have been guilty on occasion of looking like they lack the stomach and desire for a relegation fight and would rather be elsewhere. That is simply unacceptable - and makes it very difficult to choose one over the other. Verdict: Another draw, 1-1. You wouldn't want either with you down in the trenches in all honesty.
