Newcastle Transfer News: Luuk de Jong Wants Magpies Move

Newcastle United have received a huge boost in their pursuit of Luuk de Jong after it emerged the Borussia Monchengladbach striker wants to move to St James' Park, according to the Chronicle. The Magpies' chances of landing de Jong received a further boost with Ajax and PSV Eindhoven pulling out of the race, leaving Newcastle in pole position to land the forward. De Jong has fallen down the pecking order at Monchengladbach, however, the German side insist they are under no pressure to sell this month. Instead, Gladbach are waiting for the Magpies to show their hand and get the deal completed. Despite rumours that Newcastle's director of football Joe Kinnear flew to Germany, the reality is that the Toon chief has been working from his London home and was in the stands at West Ham at the weekend. Newcastle have been told by Gladbach that the Bundesliga side required a back-up striker before sanctioning de Jong's transfer, and that the move hinges on them bringing in fresh blood. But the chances of the north east club landing de Jong look a lot brighter now, with sources close to the player's father, Geroge, claiming his son is eager for a move.
Luuk feels like he€™s in the waiting room at the moment. He€™s eager to sign for Newcastle but things are moving very slowly.
George also claimed Newcastle are only interested in a loan move and aren't interested in making the move permanent for the time being. He continued:
Gladbach don€™t want to loan him out until they a back-up striker in as a replacement. Of course, it would be different if the transfer went through as a permanent deal. But Newcastle have made it clear they want him on loan. Both Ajax and PSV were interested but the financial conditions of the deal no longer interest them. Now he€™s just waiting for the next contact. Newcastle are the only real contenders at the moment.
