Newcastle Transfer News: Papiss Cisse Rejects Luuk de Jong Player-Swap Deal
Newcastle forward Papiss Cisse has rejected a player-swap deal with Borussia Monchengladbach, threatening to detail Luuk De Jong's move to St James' Park, according to the Independent. The Magpies were hoping to land de Jong under the proposal that Cisse join the German club in return, but the 28-year-old has dismissed this possibility. Monchengladbach have made it clear they will only sell de Jong once they have found a suitable replacement for the forward, and Cisse could have smoothed things over in that department. The Senegal striker was set to form part of a player-exchange deal but having dug his heels in to prevent a move to the Bundesliga, the offer for de Jong has been modified to one of straight cash. Joe Kinnear, Newcastle's director of football, has been keen to broker a deal for the ex-FC Twente man for some time and appears to be nearing his first major coup since controversially returning to the Magpies. Alan Pardew, manager of the north East outfit, has also been tracking the 23-year-old since 2012 and still hopes to include the Dutchman in his squad to face Norwich next Tuesday. Monchengladbach will initially receive £7 million if the de Jong move goes through and the rest in incentive-based add-ons, but that will still fall short of the £10 million Newcastle offered Twente last year. Max Eberl, Monchengladbach's sporting director, said:
"Things tend to happen more towards the end of the transfer window, and were moving into that now."
