Newcastle Transfer Round-Up: Every Player Linked From July 6th-12th

12. Ergys Kace (PAOK)

Newcastle United are looking to raid Greek side PAOK for defensive-midfielder Ergys Kace as they aim to put an end to their frustrating lack of summer spending. The Sun (paywall) claim that the Magpies are ready to launch a £2 million bid for the 21-year-old Albanian international. At just 5ft 4in, Kace is short for a defensive-midfielder and that may concern some Newcastle supporters - with the equally small Vurnon Anita having struggled to assert himself in the Premier League in recent years. However, Kace has been capped 12 times by Albania - scoring twice - and he could be brought to the North East as a potential replacement for Cheick Tiote, who has been linked with a transfer to Turkey this summer. Albanian-born Kace began his youth career at Achilleas Triandrias in Greece before he moved to PAOK's academy in 2005. After making his league debut in January 2011, Kace has gone on to make 111 appearances for PAOK in all, scoring on six occasions. He also spent the 2011-12 season on loan at Anagennisi Epanomi, where he netted once in 19 matches. Newcastle remain one of only two Premier League sides - along with Crystal Palace - who are yet to make a signing this summer, but head coach Steve McClaren wants recruits brought in before the club head on their pre-season tour to the USA this weekend.
