Newcastle Transfers: 5 Best & 5 Worst Ever January Transfer Deals

3. Papiss Demba Cissé

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwYscRSt9H4 Newcastle€™s striking options were bolstered in the 2012 window when Cissé arrived on Tyneside from Freiburg, but no-one could have envisaged the spectacular impact that he would go on to have for the remainder of the season. After instantly endearing himself with the Geordie faithful by scoring a left-foot volleyed winner after coming off the bench to make his debut against Aston Villa, the Senegalese front man went on to score an impressive 13 goals in 14 Premier League appearances, in a run of form that catapulted Newcastle into 5th position. Cissé also took the goal of the season award for his ridiculous, gravity-defying effort against Chelsea, which is one of the greatest goals that I, personally, have ever seen. After a rip-roaring start for the man wearing the iconic number 9 shirt, his second season has been somewhat disappointing; netting only 7 goals in 22 appearances in all competitions to date, and Alan Pardew will be hoping Cissé can replicate his form of last season, as the Magpies look to climb the table.
