Newcastle Transfers: 7 Problems Andy Carroll Would Solve

1. An Answer To The Ridiculous "Geordie Nation" Team

As a Newcastle fan you have to accept certain things about yourself, because the newspapers all know much more about us than we ever could ourselves. A big part of that is that - based on Sir John Hall's outdated desire to have an entire team of locals - every Newcastle fan wants to see 11 Geordies line up for every game. That is not true, even if it does hint at the fact that all Newcastle fans want a better youth set up that promotes local talent (it helps everyone, both on a financial front as well as for that good old local pride). Newcastle fans just want players who try and who are good at their jobs. Having Carroll would at least put to bed - either way - the unspoken assumption that Geordies are always better for Newcastle than any foreigners could ever be. If Paul Merson wants to continually bang on about English options being better - and local ones even better - perhaps it's time we brought Carroll back to shut him up about it once and for all.
