2. Luuk De Jong
Another player Newcastle have been following all summer and reports yesterday suggested the club's hierarchy were in the Netherlands to finalise a move to bring the Dutch sensation from Steve McClaren's FC Twente to St. James' Park. Dubbed "the next Robin Van Persie" in his homeland, De Jong has lit up the Eredivisie like no youngster in years, notching up 25 league goals last campaign that saw him called up to the Holland squad for the Euro 2012 championships above more experienced talent. He has now played seven times for his country and has scored his first international goal and has become one of Europe's most watched young talents. Newcastle have been following the 21-year-old since last year and this is a transfer they have been plotting for months. If Newcastle are to qualify for the Champions League next season they will need at least one top class striker to bang the goals in next January when Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba (if he stays) are off at the African Cup of Nations and De Jong's natural finishing ability has Geordies whetting their appetites at the potential signing. If Newcastle can keep them and add De Jong, what a front-line they would have next term. One of the top four in the league we'd imagine.
