Newcastle United Transfer News: Vurnon Anita To St James' Park?

Newcastle United have made an improved bid for Ajax's Dutch international midfielder Vurnon Anita

Newcastle United have made an improved bid for Ajax's Dutch international midfielder Vurnon Anita, according to reports out in Holland (via nufcblog.com). Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claim that The Magpies' offer is said to be around the ‚8M range, which is about £6.5M which backs up previous reports that Newcastle were preparing a new offer. Allegedly, Anita has turned down Ajax's latest contract offer and is hoping to push through a move to St. James' Park. Reports on Friday suggested that United had opened talks with Anita's new Italian agent Mino Raiola, with Newcastle's Managing Director Derek Llambias and Secretary Lee Charnley both in Holland trying to secure the deal. The Premier League club have reportedly told Vurnon that he wouldn't walk in to Newcastle as one of the club's top earners but they would review his wages after six months on Tyneside and depending on how he performs, he could be offer a significant wage increase. Newcastle, who are currently struggling against Championship side Cardiff City in the last of the Toon's Pre-season friendly matches (losing 3-0 at the time of writing), have yet to secure any of their major summer transfer targets and are in danger of starting next season with no new senior recruits.
