Newcastle's France World Cup Star Targets Move To Champions League Club

Debuchy wants something we are in no position to offer.

Mathieu Debuchy has hinted that he is ready to bid 'au revoir' to Newcastle this summer and the France international desperate to play in the Champions League.

A report in ESPN this morning claims Debuchy informed journalists at France's World Cup base of his eagerness to compete in European competition after we failed to qualify for the Europa League following a cataclysmic meltdown in the second half of last season.

We're obviously thrilled to learn of the 28-year-old fan favourite's love of playing in front of the passionate Toon Army and we suspect there are few that would begrudge an ambitious Debuchy the chance of a reunion with best friend Yohan Cabaye at Paris Saint German.

"Personally, it's a great adventure. I have discovered English charm, which is very hard, Newcastle and their extraordinary fans. It's really incredible to play in that atmosphere," the Frenchman explained.

"Having said that, I miss European football and the Champions League in particular. For the moment, I'm concentrating on the World Cup, and we'll see about the rest afterwards."

Obviously it would be a bitter blow to lose Debuchy after just 18 months at St James' Park where he's nailed down the right-back slot and demonstrated why we tailed him for so long with a series of excellent performances.
