NFL Draft 2013: 5 Things I Learned

5. The Jets Hate Mark Sanchez

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmziqAFKTCs How the mighty have fallen? A first round pick in the 2009 draft out of golden boy college, USC, Sanchez led the Jets to 2 straight NFC championship games riding a first class defense and running game despite a certified buffoon as a head coach. However, the last two years has seen Sanchez implode faster than Anna Nicole Smith's career and his confidence level sink faster than Adamantium swimming trunks. First, the Jets traded for God's quarterback, Tim Tebow, arguably the most divisive player in the NFL (although the Jets did release Tebow right after the draft), and Tebow brought with him a media circus that was just salivating for Sanchez to fail. And fail he did, highlighted by the now legendary butt fumble. In 2012, Sanchez, without a top defense or running game threw only 13 TDs compared to 18 interceptions, on the to a 6-10 record, the team's second non losing season in a row. And when he got hurt, the Jets passed over Tebow and gave a start to undrafted free agent Greg McElroy. How's that for a confidence builder? But that is only the icing on the awful, awful cake. With many of the pre draft pundits predicting the Jets front office would try and bolster Sanchez and the flagging Jets offense, possibly taking dynamic West Virginia WR Tavon Austin, the Jets instead put another nail in Sanchez's delicate confidence and drafted a Quarterback with their first pick in the second round. Now, for the record, I predicted West Virginia QB Geno Smith would fall to the second round in a draft with a pretty crummy QB class, but there were some who thought he was arguably the best QB in the draft, possibly going in the top 5 in some scenarios. So basically the Jets have appeared to be setting the wheels in motion to cut ties with Sanchez, be it this year or next year. You don't take one of the drafts top QBs (in others opinions) and send a vote of confidence to your still young incumbent. If it wasn't for Sanchez's 8.25 million dollar payday if they do release or trade him, he'd be modeling tighty whiteys next week before some desperate team claims him due to an injury in training camp. And that leads me to...

I am metal. I am so metal I ejaculate mercury. OK, love puppies, pro football and my daughter, so how's that for balance? I own a little metal blog called teethofthedivine.com and used to write for Metal Maniacs, Unrestrained magazines and currently help out with Hails and Horns and New Noise magazines. Yeah- I guess I am metal.
