NFL: Odds On 13 Teams Winning Their First SuperBowl

9. Houston Texans (2013 Record: 2-14)

The Texans seemed to experience every problem imaginable in 2013. All-Pro Running Back Arian Foster went down with a season ending injury, Matt Schuab would unceremoniously be pulled as the Starting QB, and Head Coach Gary Kubiak would be let go of his coaching duties after Week 14 of the regular season. All while losing their last 14 games of the regular season. Houston's sudden descent down the NFL ladder caught fans off-guard after the Texans had won two straight division titles, and looked to be a Super Bowl favorite in 2013. After so much progress, it seems like they're back at square one. Kubiak took over the Texans in 2006 after a 2-14 season, and held the first pick in the 2006 draft. Now nine years later, it's all too familiar. New Head Coach Bill O'Brien comes in after two impressive seasons at Penn State, and currently holds the number one pick in this years' draft. Considering that O'Brien has NFL experience as a QB Coach, I would expect nothing less than for Houston to take a QB at #1, but defensive options like Jadeveon Clowney and Anthony Barr interest owner Bob McNair. Houston still has Andre Johnson and Foster to power the offense, but a franchise QB is the missing piece to put the Texans back into the spotlight. Odds of making Super Bowl XLIX: 6%

8. Tennessee Titans (2013 Record: 7-9)

The Tennessee Titans were one yard away from not being on this list. In Super Bowl XXXIV, the Titans were on the St. Louis Rams' 10-yard line with 6 seconds left and no timeouts remaining, trailing 16-23. Quarterback Steve McNair hit Receiver Kenny Dyson on a slant route and it looked like he would score to knot the game up, but a game-saving tackle by Linebacker Mike Jones would stop Dyson at the 1-yard line, thus giving the Rams the victory in dramatic fashion. Since that fateful stop, the Titans haven't made it back to the Super Bowl, and have only finished above .500 once since last making the playoffs in 2008. Six different Quarterbacks have started for Tennessee since then, including former Texas QB Vince Young, who didn't exactly leave on the best of terms. Now the QB position is in suspension, with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Jake Locker convincingly cemented themselves as the true starter this season. Will the Titans take a another QB early in this years draft? Or will they focus more on the defensive side of the ball in 2014? Either way, Tennessee has a lot on their plate if they hope to even clinch a Wild Card spot in 2014. Odds of making Super Bowl XLIX: 7%

7. Detroit Lions (2013 Record: 7-9)

The Lions looked to be in the driver's seat for a division title after starting 6-3 with big wins over the Dallas Cowboys and division rival Chicago Bears, but the wheels fell off and they dropped six of their last seven games to stumble to a 7-9 finish. Quarterback Matthew Stafford has played well enough, leading Detroit to their first playoff berth since 1999 two seasons ago in a loss to the New Orleans Saints. Since then, the Lions have gone 11-21 and cut ties with Head Coach Jim Schwartz. Now with former Colts Head Coach Jim Caldwell taking over, things could be looking back up for the Lions in 2014. Reggie Bush seems to be on the right track after rushing for 3,078 yards the past three season with both the Dolphins and Lions, that's more than what he ran for in five seasons with the Saints combined. Calvin Johnson continues to prove day in and day out he is one of the best receivers in the league, with his 5th career 1,000-yard season. On the other side of the ball, Detroit has formed a young, solid Defensive Line that could become a problem for Offenses in 2014. Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, and Ziggy Ansah headline the Lions front four, combining for 19.5 sacks and 86 tackles last season. If Detroit can find one more piece on both offense and defense in either the draft or free agency, the Lions could roar once again in the NFC North. Odds of making Super Bowl XLIX: 12%
