Kieran Trippier is a very similar player to the man he eventually replaced at Tottenham Hotspur, Kyle Walker, offering an alternative option in attack, but always reliable in defence, working as hard at one end of the pitch as the other.

With Walker all but guaranteed a place in Russia, Trippier's biggest rival for the back up RB slot is Nathanial Clyne. While a healthy Clyne may even have challenged for the starting role, the Liverpool defender has spent the majority of the season injured, taking no part in any of the last four England friendlies.

Meanwhile, Southgate has had more than enough time working with Trippier, including the former Burnley player in the squad for these four games, starting three of them. This experience, and working relationship between the manager and the player will be just enough to put Trippier above Clyne this time.
