Predicting The Last 16 Of The Champions League 2014/15

Group B

Predicted Table: 1. Real Madrid 2. Liverpool 3. Ludogorets 4. FC Basel Group B sees the first of the English teams set to take part. Liverpool have been thrown into a mixed group that should see them progress. The fans are overjoyed at the prospect of Champions League football once again, a tournament with which Liverpool holds great pride. Since lifting the title in 2005 the English club have struggled domestically and failed to qualify for the group stages since the 2009/10 season. Now they are back and even without Luis Suarez they look a strong team in this group and should be aiming for second place. The biggest test for Liverpool will be reigning champions and 10 times winners in all, Real Madrid. Following an impressive 2-0 win over Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup, Madrid have made a poor start to the domestic season including that humbling home defeat to local rivals Atletico Madrid. Nevertheless, on the opening night of the Champions League they dismantled FC Basel in an accomplished performance that saw them run out 5-1 winners. They are expected to top this group with ease due to their sheer attacking dominance. Ludogorets make their Champions League debut and become only the second Bulgarian team to make it to the group stages of the Champions League. Their national compatriots, Levski Sofia, competed in the 2006/07 competition and didn€™t manage a single point so there is little pressure on Ludogorets. The Bulgarian champions look like a decent side and could cause troubles in this group, as they did at Anfield, losing narrowly 2-1 to a disputed Gerrard penalty. FC Basel have become Champions League regulars in recent seasons but each time fail to cause any real upsets. They lost their talented midfielder, Mohamed Salah to Chelsea in the summer and look severely depleted as a result. They will be fighting Ludogorets to avoid the wooden spoon, but the Bulgarians will have the edge.
