Premier League: 10 Best Transfer Bargains of 2012

8. Mladen Petric (Fulham, free)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jzrcy_9dgWA&feature=related Quite the free kick, isn't it. Two goals on your debut is guaranteed to get the crowd behind you, and Craven Cottage is already excited by him. He is 31 now, which some might say explains the free transfer, but he still has plenty to offer in lieu of resale value. His options may be limited by the performances of Berbatov, and the promising academy graduate Kacaniklic who also impressed on the first day of the season, but his form thus far has arguably been more than enough to warrant a starting berth, with 3 goals and an assist in his first 4 league games, including a goal against title-contenders Manchester City just before the international break. He is definitely good enough for this level, and if you disagree, you didn't watch the video. A left-footed striker who can finish and score from distance, he's like the new Andy Johnson, except, well, good. He would presumably partner Berbatov up front, with one providing the link-up play and the other ideally scoring the goals. He will have to fight off competition from Hugo Rodallega, but that shouldn't be too hard. Rating: 9/10 Needs to play more.
